Sherri Lynn's Story
After graduation, I continued to work for a family busines until October 1972. In October, I was fortunate to interview for a position at Wadsworth Veterans Hospital through UCLA and, surprise of all surprises, I was hired. I have continued to work for UCLA, in the same Department (Medicine), since hiring. My secondary area has changed, Hematology-Oncology, and have managed to "advance" through the ranks. At present, I provide guidance to faculty members as to their requirements for academic advancement, review their dossiers, write the recommendation letters to the Dean or Vice Chancellor, and submit the completed dossiers to the appropriate office for advanced review. I also participate in salary negotiations for faculty, advising on their current academic positions and their trajectory for advancement.

he position of "running" a Fellowship Program in Hematology-Oncology. I sit on a Committee comprised of the Chair of the Division, five Directors for the Program, and one assistant. I help plan out the rotation schedules of the 17-18 Fellows in the Program, schedule vacations, prepare budgets, and write grants for funding. All-in-all, it's fun; quite a bit of work, but fun.
I am happy to report that, after almost 41 years in the Department of Medicine at UCLA, I have retired. My last official day on pay status was June 27, 2013. I can't wait to start this next chapter in my life.
I am divorced and have one daughter (Fiona) who lives in Las Vegas. I can't believe she turned 30 in March 2009. It seems like only yesterday . . . Since this posting, Fiona now has two children (Emmett; June 5, 2010 and Fiona Alexis; October 28, 2013); married (April 21, 2012).
